Sambalpur University PhD Admission 2025
Online applications are invited from the eligible candidates for admission into Ph.D. Programme-2025 in the following subjects of Sambalpur University.
The candidates may visit the University website: www.suniv.ac.in for submitting the application online from 27.10.2025 (from 12:00 Noon) to 16.11.2025 (up to 11:00 P.M.).

Minimum Educational Qualification:
Candidates who have completed:
- A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree programme after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme or a 2- year/4-semester master’s degree programme after a 3-year bachelor’s degree programme or qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed
equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution.
- A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
- Provided that a candidate seeking admission after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree programme should have a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed. A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled, Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time.
The respective SRC of Nodal Centre will decide on the allied subjects.
Eligibility
The following three categories of candidates are eligible for applying Ph.D. Programme under Sambalpur University as per the UGC Notification No. F-4-1/UGC-NET Review Committee) /2024 (NET) dated March 28, 2024 and No. F-4-1/UGC-NET Review Committee) /2024 (NET) dated March 27, 2024 and No. F-4-1/UGC-NET Review Committee) /2024 (NET) dated March 28, 2024.
Category-1: Eligible for admission to Ph.D. with JRF qualified with validity for fellowship through UGC-NET / UGC- CSIR-NET / GATE / CEED and similar national level tests.
Category-2: Eligible for admission to Ph.D. without JRF and with eligibility for appointment as Assistant Professor qualified through UGC-NET / UGC-CSIR-NET / GATE / CEED and similar national level tests.
Category-3: Eligible for admission to Ph.D. Programme only and not for the award of JRF or appointment as Assistant Professor (UGC-NET)
In-service candidates will have to submit a No-objection certificate from their employers, failing which their application will be rejected. A copy of the same will be submitted at the time of Registration.
Candidates who are admitted into the Ph.D. Programme as unemployed candidates and subsequently applying for Registration as in-service candidates will submit a No-objection certificate from their employers at the time of registration.
Reservation of Seats:
Reservation of seats under different categories shall be made as per the Odisha State Government norms issued from time to time.
Application Fee:
The candidates have to deposit an Application Fee of Rs.2000/- (Rupees two thousand) only through State Bank Collect (Please refer to details of procedure for depositing the application fee as enclosed herewith).
Mode of Selection:
(i) For those students having valid JRF (Category-1) qualified through UGC-NET / UGC-CSIR-NET / GATE / CEED and similar national level tests, the selection will be done based on personal interview only.
(ii) For candidates who qualify under category 2 & 3, 70% of weightage will be given for UGC-NET / UGC-CSIR-NET / GATE / CEED and similar national level tests score and 30% weightage for the interview for admission to Ph.D. Programme.
Marks obtained in the UGC-NET / UGC-CSIR-NET / GATE / CEED and similar national level tests by the candidates in the categories 2 & 3 will be valid for a period of one year OR as mentioned in their score card issued by the respective National Level Testing Agency.
