Key Requirements
1. Qualifications
A candidate must be a citizen of India or such other person as defined by the Government of India.
A candidate must possess a Degree in Law from any University or Institution recognized by the Government or the Central Government.
A candidate must be enrolled as an advocate in the roll of Bar Council of any State or Union Territory in India on the date of advertisement for examination (i.e., on or before October 9, 2025).
A candidate must be able to write and speak in Bengali (not required for those candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali).
2. Age Limit
Not less than 23 years and not more than 35 years on the date of advertisement for the examination (i.e., between 07.12.1989 and 07.12.2001).
Age relaxation is available for SC/ST (5 years), OBC (3 years), and PwBD (up to 45 years).
3. Fees
Rs. 210/- (Rupees two hundred ten only) plus service charges.
EXEMPTION OF FEE is applicable to SC/ST candidates of West Bengal and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD). OBC candidates are NOT exempt.
Examination & Selection Process
1. Stages of Examination
The examination will consist of three successive stages:
Preliminary Examination (MCQ Type): Screening test.
Final Examination (Conventional Type - Written): Candidates qualified from the Prelims, approximately ten times the final number of candidates to be selected, will be called for the Final Examination.
Personality Test: Candidates selected on the results of the Final Examination will be called to appear.
2. Qualifying Standards
The Commission has fixed the following minimum qualifying marks (aggregate of Written Examination and Personality Test):

3. Negative Marking
There shall be negative marking for each wrong answer to multiple-choice questions (MCQ Type).

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTION REGARDING EDIT WINDOW
The applicant will be allowed to edit some of the fields, if required, only once.
The Edit Window can be accessed by logging into individual accounts at
https://psc.wb.gov.in/ .Applicants are advised to verify the details and obtain a printout of the form to identify discrepancies before the edit window opens.
Applicants willing to change their address must first change the same in the Profile Section and then use the Edit option.
The Edit option can be availed only once during the aforesaid period.
CAUTION: False Information
If, at any stage of examination, an applicant is found to have submitted false information regarding his/her age, qualifications, caste/category, he/she will entail penal action as deemed fit by the Commission and his/her candidature is liable to cancellation.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Can I apply for the post if I am not a resident of West Bengal?
A: Yes, a candidate must be a citizen of India (or a person of Indian origin as specified). However, benefits of reservation (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) are available only to candidates of West Bengal. Candidates from other states will be treated as General candidates.
Q: Where will the examinations be held?
A: The Preliminary Examination will tentatively be held at Kolkata (Code-11) and Darjeeling (Code-12). The Final Examination will be held at Kolkata, Darjeeling, Viz., Purba/Paschim Medinipur, Murshidabad, and Malda. The Personality Test will be held at the office of the Public Service Commission, West Bengal, in Kolkata.
Q: Can I change my application details after the closing date?
A: Changes can only be made during the designated Edit Window (12/11/2025 to 18/11/2025), and you are permitted to use this option only once.
Q: Is there a specific language for the written examination?
A: Candidates must answer all the papers (compulsory and optional, except the language paper) either in English or in Bengali (unless otherwise directed).
Q: I have a benchmark disability (PwBD). Are the posts suitable for me?
A: The posts are NOT suitable for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) who suffer from certain conditions like Locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, muscular dystrophy, multiple disabilities, intellectual disability, and mental illness. However, the posts ARE suitable for persons suffering from Autism, Intellectual Disability, and Mental Illness.
