Eligibility and Application Process


Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates must have a minimum of 55% marks at the Post-Graduate level (50% for SC/ST candidates as per search results).

  • Admission is strictly based on UGC and Lucknow University norms.

Admission Procedure:

  1. Candidates must first apply and appear for an Entrance Test, which will include both MCQ and descriptive questions.

  2. Candidates qualifying the entrance test will be required to appear before the Departmental Research Committee (DRC) for an Interview/Counselling.

  3. You must present your Research Proposal for presentation on a tentative topic during the interview.


Required Documents for Counselling (Self-attested copies to be attached with the application):

  • Marksheet of X and XII or equivalent examinations.

  • Marksheet of last examination passed.

  • Character Certificate from the Head of the Institution where the last examination was passed as a regular candidate (original is required at the time of counselling).

  • Caste Certificate in original and photocopy (if applicable).

  • No Objection Certificate (NoC): Applicable for candidates employed with state government or any other establishment.

  • Migration Certificate in original (for candidates from universities other than Lucknow University), failing which an additional fee of Rs. 500/- will apply.


Ph.D. Course Work Structure

The Ph.D. Course Work consists of three papers, totaling 12 credits:

  • Paper 1: Research Methodology (4 credits)

  • Paper 2: Department-specific paper (4 credits)

  • Paper 3: Research Ethics and Language Proficiency (2 credits)

Candidates must also write one Seminar Paper/Research Paper (2 credits) and endeavor to publish it in a Peer Reviewed Journal. Course Work classes will be conducted in both online and offline mode.


Important Notes for Candidates

  • Candidates must produce a No Objection Certificate (NoC) and their respective Appointment Letter at the time of counselling if they are teachers seeking admission to the Ph.D. program.

  • Candidates failing in a class cannot seek admission in the same class.

  • Candidates found guilty of misconduct or using unfair means will be ineligible for admission.
