Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled two transformative agricultural schemes totaling ₹35,440 crore at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, declaring the launch as “a new chapter in India’s agricultural history.” The initiatives aim to uplift farmer incomes, reduce import dependency, and modernize rural infrastructure.
PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana: ₹24,000 Crore for District-Level Transformation
The flagship PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana will target 100 underperforming districts with a ₹24,000 crore investment. Key objectives include:
- Enhancing crop productivity
- Promoting crop diversification
- Strengthening post-harvest storage at panchayat and block levels
- Expanding irrigation coverage
- Facilitating access to long- and short-term credit
The scheme consolidates 36 existing programs across 11 ministries, streamlining implementation through a digital dashboard tracking 117 performance indicators under NITI Aayog’s supervision.
Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses: ₹11,440 Crore to Reduce Import Dependency
India, despite being the world’s largest producer and consumer of pulses, continues to rely heavily on imports. The new Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses aims to:
- Expand pulse cultivation from 27.5M to 31M hectares by 2030–31
- Increase production from 24.2M to 35M tonnes
- Distribute 1.26 crore quintals of certified seeds and 88 lakh free seed kits
- Establish 1,000 processing units with ₹25 lakh subsidies each
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized that while India has achieved self-sufficiency in wheat and rice since 2014, pulses remain a strategic gap.
Infrastructure Push: ₹42,000 Crore Across Allied Sectors
The launch event also marked the inauguration and foundation-laying of 1,100 projects worth ₹42,000 crore in agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and food processing. Highlights include:
- Artificial insemination training centers in Bengaluru and Jammu & Kashmir
- Milk powder plants in Mehsana, Indore, and Bhilwara
- Fish feed plant in Tezpur under the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana
Farmer Engagement and Natural Farming Recognition
Modi interacted with pulse farmers and distributed certificates to 50,000 farmers certified under the National Mission for Natural Farming. The event celebrated milestones such as:
- 50 lakh farmer memberships across 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs)
- 1,100 FPOs achieving annual turnovers exceeding ₹1 crore in FY 2024–25
