Job Description
Join a cutting-edge research project at IIT Delhi aimed at revolutionizing the energy efficiency and environmental footprint of the glass industry. They are seeking two highly motivated Junior Research Fellows (JRFs) to work on the project "Performance Evaluation and Design Optimization of Glass Industry Furnaces for Improved Combustion & Fuel Savings Potentials."
This role offers a unique opportunity to work on real-world industrial challenges, combining computational modeling with on-site data collection at a leading glass manufacturing plant.
Detailed Responsibilities
The selected candidates will be integral to the project's success, with responsibilities including:
- Understanding the design and creating 3D drawings of existing industrial glass furnaces.
- Studying and analyzing the thermal performance and emission characteristics of furnaces.
- Conducting complete heat and mass transfer analysis using simulation tools.
- Validating simulation models with experimental data collected on-site.
- Optimizing furnace performance using different insulating materials.
Qualifications
- Must-Have:
- B.Tech and M.Tech in Mechanical/Thermal/Energy Engineering or related fields.
- A minimum of 75% marks (or equivalent CGPA).
- Nice-to-Have (Preferred):
- Strong background in modelling/CFD simulation.
- Experience or knowledge in the design of furnaces.
- Proficiency in data analysis.
Note: A 5% relaxation in marks is applicable for SC/ST candidates.

- Ph.D. Enrollment: JRFs will be encouraged to register for a Ph.D. program at IIT Delhi following institute rules. The Ph.D. topic will be directly related to this project.
- Industry Deputation: After course work, fellows will be deputed to work at the Gold Plus Float Glass industry in Belagavi (Karnataka) for data collection and analysis.
- Future Absorption: There is a very high chance of being absorbed by the industry partner after gaining 2+ years of specialized experience in this project.
