New Delhi, September 23, 2025 – In a landmark initiative to foster a culture of innovation from the grassroots, the Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, today launched the ‘Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025’. The ambitious nationwide movement aims to mobilize over one crore (10 million) school students to develop solutions for building a developed India by 2047.
The program is a collaborative effort by the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, in partnership with the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
A Nationwide Sprint for Self-Reliance
The Buildathon is designed to be one of the world's largest live innovation events, channeling the creativity of young minds towards national priorities such as ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India), ‘Vocal for Local’, and ‘Samriddh Bharat’ (Prosperous India). Students from classes 6 to 12, forming teams of 5-7 members, will identify local or national problems and build working prototypes as solutions.
“The Viksit Bharat Buildathon is not just a competition; it is a Jan Andolan (people's movement) to ignite the innovative spirit of our youth. It is a crucial step in aligning our education system with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing critical thinking and hands-on learning,” said Union Minister Pradhan during the launch event.
Grand Finale with Prime Minister’s Inauguration
The climax of the initiative will be a live, synchronized ‘Buildathon’ event on October 13, 2025. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the event at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, where 400 students will participate in person. Simultaneously, lakhs of student teams from across the country and even from Indian schools abroad, facilitated by Indian embassies, will join the innovation sprint online.

The project submission window will remain open from October 14 to October 31, 2025. After a rigorous evaluation process, the top 10,000 innovations will be nationally recognized. These top innovators will not only receive prizes but also gain access to long-term mentorship and opportunities for corporate adoption of their prototypes to help bring their ideas to life.
