Those appointed before RTE Act 2009 must clear TET within 2 years, otherwise they will lose their job benefits. Minority institutions are temporarily exempted.

1. Total Marks: The TET exam will have a total of 180 marks.

2. Minimum Qualifying Marks:

  • General category candidates need at least 60% (108 marks).
  • Reserved categories (SC, ST, OBC, PH) get 5% relaxation; they need 55% (99 marks).

3. Minimum Marks per Section:

  • Candidates must secure at least 40% marks in each part of the examination. For example, if a section is out of 50, then a minimum of 20 marks is required.

4. Exam Format:

  • The paper contains 180 multiple-choice questions, each worth one mark.
  • There is no negative marking.

5. Validity of TET Certificate:

  • Once certified, the TET qualification is valid for a lifetime.

6. TET Passing Does Not Guarantee Job:

  • TET is a qualification test, not a recruitment test.
  • Passing it only makes candidates eligible to appear for subject-specific recruitment exams.

7. Eligibility for Appearing in TET:

  • For class 9-10 teacher aspirants: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) with pedagogy in two school subjects, or integrated B.Ed degrees.
  • For class 11-12 teacher aspirants: Master’s degree in the relevant subject, or B.Ed with pedagogy, or equivalent integrated courses.

8. Syllabus and Marking:

  • For classes 9-10: 40 marks on teaching-learning related questions, 20 marks each on first and second language, and 80 marks on pedagogy and subject-specific content (select any two subjects; e.g., math and science or languages and history).
  • For classes 11-12: 50 marks on teaching-learning, 20 each on languages, and 70 marks on pedagogy and subject-based knowledge for one chosen subject.
