Storyline
Raghu Dakat is a Bengali-language epic period folk action-adventure film set in 19th-century Bengal during the Indigo Revolt (1859–1860). The film follows Raghu, a notorious outlaw who transforms into a folk hero and symbol of resistance against British colonial oppression.
The story blends historical events with Bengali folklore, depicting Raghu's journey from a feared dacoit to a revered cultural figure who fights against the exploitation of peasants by British indigo planters and local zamindars.
Historical Context
Raghu Dakat was a real 19th-century dacoit active in the Howrah region, known for raids on zamindar estates during Kali Puja. He gained a "Robin Hood"-like reputation for redistributing his loot to impoverished villagers, becoming a symbol of resistance against British exploitation and Zamindari oppression.
