Neeraj Chopra, World Athletics Championships 2025 Final

Neeraj Chopra participated in the men's javelin throw final at the World Athletics Championships 2025 held in Tokyo. He entered as the defending world champion and had previously delivered consistent podium performances in major events.

In the qualification round, Chopra smoothly advanced with a throw of 84.85 meters. The final saw a strong field with competitors like Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, Germany’s Julian Weber, and others.

During the final, Neeraj Chopra's best throw was 84.03 meters, which placed him eighth overall. Unfortunately, he did not breach the 85-meter mark, a benchmark important to contend for medals. This was a tough outing for Chopra, marking the first time since 2018 that he did not secure a medal in a major championship event. Arshad Nadeem finished tenth while Sachin Yadav, another Indian competitor, performed impressively and secured the fourth spot with a best effort of 86.27 meters.

The event was won by Grenada’s Keshorn Walcott with a leading throw of 88.16 meters. German athlete Julian Weber, who had the season’s best mark, finished fifth, while the competition included past world champions and Olympic medalists, making it a fiercely competitive final.

For Neeraj, the final did not unfold as hoped, but his presence among the world’s best was notable as he tried to defend his crown. Experts noted that factors such as run-up discipline and weather conditions influence such performances, with a strong start usually pivotal in championship settings.

Overall, while Chopra did not win a medal this time, his consistent presence in finals over years reflects his stature as one of the premier javelin throwers globally and India's top athletics star.
