Manipur University Pre-Ph.D. Admissions 2025
Manipur University has released a notification inviting online applications from eligible candidates for provisional admission to the Pre-Ph.D. programme for the academic session 2025.
A total of 36 departments/centres are offering seats, including disciplines such as Anthropology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Law, Management, Medical Sciences, and Yoga, among others.
Important Dates:
- Start of online application: 13 September 2025
- Last date to apply: 12 October 2025
Eligibility:
Candidates must meet the eligibility criteria as per the Manipur University Ph.D. Regulations, 2023. Key requirements include:
- A Master’s degree with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade)
- A 4-year Bachelor’s degree with 75% marks or more
- M.Tech./M.E. with 60%, or B.E./B.Tech. with 80% + valid GATE score
- Relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PWD/EWS candidates
Candidates who have qualified in UGC-NET/JRF, CSIR-JRF, GATE, SLET, or similar national-level tests are exempt from the entrance exam but must appear for an interview.

- General/OBC: ₹500

Selection Process:
- 70% weightage to NET score (if applicable)
- 30% weightage to performance in the interview
- Interview includes:
- Research proposal presentation (20 marks)
- Personal interview (30 marks)
Note: For Engineering and Medical Science streams, a Qualifying Entrance Test (QET) may be conducted as per department-specific norms.
Important Notes:
- Only candidates securing minimum ‘B’ grade in the Pre-Ph.D. course work will be eligible for Ph.D. registration.
- University fellowships are available only for scholars enrolled under university teachers as per UGC guidelines.
- Female scholars may request relocation due to marriage with research data transfer under certain conditions.
